🇬🇧🇦🇺 Day 2 in Australia | Heading to Orange to explore biological innovation After a very productive first day in Sydney, meeting investors and industry colleagues, we are now heading to Orange, New South Wales, as part of the Innovate UK Global Incubator Programme Australia, delivered by Founders to Founders. Today is particularly interesting for me because we are visiting the Orange Agricultural Institute, part of NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The Institute is doing some important work in biological research, biocontrol, biosecurity and weed management. We will have an opportunity to meet researchers, understand their work and discuss where we may be able to collaborate. I am particularly interested in the work of Dr Andrew McConnachie and David Officer in biological weed control and the development and evaluation of biological control agents. At Bionema Group, we have been working in this area for many years, developing microbial biopesticides, bioherbicides, biostimulants and biofertilisers. We have also developed technologies such as Incapsulex® and Adhesulex™ to improve how biological products are formulated, delivered and perform in the field. One thing I have learnt over the years is that developing a good biological product is not enough. It must work reliably in the field, be practical for growers and make commercial sense. That is where I see opportunities for collaboration between research institutes, technology companies and growers. We will also be meeting the SparkLabs Cultiv8 team and visiting See Saw Wines & Farms, where we will learn more about organic farming, soil health, regenerative agriculture and efficient water use. For me, this Australian visit is about understanding what farmers and growers need, meeting the right people and finding practical ways to work together. I am looking forward to today’s discussions and exploring how we can bring some of Bionema’s technologies into the Australian market through research and commercial partnerships. Deux exemples atypiques: - Vous êtes botaniste et vous souhaitez gérer votre serre efficacement: Une IA peut vous aider à savoir quand et comment arroser quelle plante, si tel ou tel secteur de la serre est infesté par tel insecte, comment y remedier avec recommendations, quels sont les périodes les plus propiscent au développement de vos plantes, connaitre vos stocks de graines automatiquement vous réapprovisionner pour vous faire gagner du temps. - Vous avez une flotte de camions de récolte des déchets: Une IA peut vous aider à economiser l'energie dépensée par chaque camion en calculant les itinéraires optimaux qui limitent les coûts en énergie, la fatigue du chauffeur (de la chauffeure) et des employé.es (éboueur.euses). Modéliser des matiéraux résistants aux déchets pour les gants et les masques des employés. Et plus tard, la phase de tri, trier pour réutiliser et recycler les matériaux utiles, optimiser le conveyeur pour les tris avec des algorithmes plus efficaces principalement de vision et de classification. Bien sûr tout ça n'est pas sans garder le contrôle avisé d'un.e spécialiste du domaine qui connait sont métier et qui ne sera qu'"augmenté" et "assisté" par les machines... Bonne lecture...

Happy to share that my team secured 1st🥇 place in the Project Expo held on 29 September 2025, organized jointly by the Research & Development Cell and ISTE! 🏆 Our project was a farmer-friendly web application designed to make agricultural information more accessible. 🌿 Plant Disease Detection – Analyze plant images to identify possible diseases and suggest solutions. 🤖 AI Chatbot – Help farmers with their agricultural queries. 🌦️ Weather Updates & Government Resources – Provide useful weather information and access to relevant government websites. This was also the first team I've had the opportunity to be with after a long gap. I'm happy that everyone took responsibility for their roles and worked together to make this a memorable experience.❤️ Although I truly enjoyed working with this team, I still find myself missing my polytechnic teammates and the memories we created together. #ProjectExpo #Teamwork #ArtificialIntelligence #WebDevelopment #AgriTech #StudentAchievement

1 kg of lettuce grown in an open field needs about 250 litres of water. The same 1 kg grown in a SmartAgri hydroponic system needs about 20. That's not a typo. It's 13x less water. So where do the other 230 litres go in a field? → They soak into the ground, below where the roots can reach → They evaporate off bare soil in the heat → They run off before the plant can use them In hydroponics, the roots sit in water mixed with nutrients. Whatever the plant doesn't drink goes back into the tank and gets used again. Nothing soaks away. This matters because farming uses about 70% of the world's fresh water. Every litre a field stops wasting is a litre left for homes, cities and the next harvest. We're not asking anyone to stop farming. 🌱 Retour de Med'Agri, avec beaucoup de notes 📝 Avec Hela Hadhri, nous avons passé trois jours sur l'Espace Innovation à Avignon pour présenter Festlik et, surtout, écouter. Les échanges avec les producteurs et les experts de la filière ont été un vrai plaisir, et très instructifs. Ils nous rappellent que la bonne question n'est pas « la technologie est-elle intéressante ? » mais « s'intègre-t-elle dans le quotidien d'une serre ou d'une exploitation ? ».
